Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that vacuums fat deposits from under the skin. Liposuction, Also known as lipoplasty, slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhances your self-image. Good candidates for liposuction cover wide range of the population, as many people have troublesome, localized fat deposits.

Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness.

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. In addition it is not an effective treatment for cellulite (dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks) or for loose saggy skin.

Prior to the surgery preoperative examinations have to be carried out (blood work and in some cases ECG) to evaluate your general health and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors.

Liposuction is performed under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best option for you. Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions. First, sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube, cannula, is inserted through these incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.

Water-assisted liposuction (WAL-technique)

Our surgeons prefer the water assisted liposuction technique. In water-jet assisted liposuction, the liposuction cannula employs a thin, wedge-shaped jet of water to spray the fat cells. The water jet is focused or targeted on a fat pocket and the water stream loosens fat so that it can be taken out by the liposuction cannula. In many ways it takes the widely used tumescent technique one step further because anesthetic can be added to the water used by the Body Jet system.

Body-Jet is good at achieving painless or near-painless lipoplasty. The anesthetic in the water leads to a more comfortable procedure and in most people it means general anesthesia is not necessary.

Patients also seem to recover more quickly after water-jet assisted liposuction. Since the liposuction under the skin is less traumatic, there is less pain during recovery. Because the water jet is delivered in a thin, targeted stream, there is less swelling during the procedure. Less swelling means that the surgeon can better visualize the areas that need to be contoured and sculpted. Thus water-assisted liposuction is more precise.

Consultations

Be prepared to discuss in the consultation why you want the surgery, your expectations and desired outcome. Be honest about your medical conditions, drug allergies and medical treatments. We will also discuss your options and recommend a course of treatment and talk about the likely outcomes of liposuction and any risks or potential complications. In addition we take photographs for your medical record.

Once you know that liposuction is right for you, you may schedule surgery several days or weeks from the time of your consultation to assure you have had enough time to understand and accept all aspects of the operation.

The surgery is performed as an inpatient in Estonia´s finest private hospital which provides round the clock care. (There is a 24 hours duty at the hospital. )Our patients have full board and rooms with all comforts (toilet, shower, TV, alarm clock). We offer our customers a complete package. We arrange the round-trip ticket between Helsinki and Tallinn, transport from the ferry port to the hospital and back. The price also includes 1 night at the hospital,, complete care, anesthesia, surgery, medications and aftercare services at the Helsinki office, such as counseling, removal of sutures and follow-up care.

You will meet your surgeon at the hospital. The surgeon will examine you, mark the liposuction area and explain which surgical technique is most appropriate for you. The operation takes place shortly after your discussion with the surgeon. It is very important not to eat or drink anything (not even water, gum or mints) for a minimum of 6 hours prior to surgery. The surgery takes one hour to complete. When surgery is completed, you will be taken into a recovery area where you will continue to be closely monitored. After the procedure, a compression garment or elastic bandages will cover treatment areas. These help control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours.

You will be provided with effective medication for postoperative discomfort and pain. Usually patients spend one (1) night under observation. On the first postoperative day the plastic surgeon will check the operated area.

Your improved body contour will be apparent when the swelling and fluid retention commonly experienced following liposuction subside. Everyone heals differently. Some discoloration and swelling will occur initially, but most residual swelling will resolve within a month. It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate after liposuction surgery. As it does, your new contours and enhanced self-image should continue to develop. A significant weight gain can reverse your results. Following liposuction, your slimmer and better-proportioned body should more accurately reflect the healthy and active life you lead.

The sutures will be removed about 10 days after surgery. The follow-up appointment is 6 months postoperative. After liposuction, it is often possible to return to work within 2-7 days, depending on your job. You cannot exercise for 4 weeks after surgery. The procedure requires a supportive garment, which is provided from the hospital. You have to wear it for 4 week after surgery. Please follow the postoperative instructions you will be given in written.

Support garment

For the best results, Plastikakirurgia Finest advises every customer to purchase a second support garment from the Nagor implant import company. They can be bought from the importer’s online store. It is important to invest in the correct support garment.
